BIOGRAPHY 

Viviana Ruiz Gómez is a Colombian artist based in Hội An, Vietnam. Drawn early to art history and design, she  wrote a batcherlor’s degree thesis ion The quatroccento Italiano, before her practice gradually centered around  painting and making. Though painting came later in life, it has become an essential part of how she observes,  understands, and moves through the world. 

Living in Vietnam for the past ten years has deeply shaped her visual language, where tropical landscapes,  movement, and everyday observation continue to influence her work. Working across materials—from painting and murals to textiles, wood, and digital media—her approach follows curiosity and a close engagement with her  surroundings. While she has created commissioned work and collaborative projects in Hội An, her personal practice  remains rooted in painting, material experimentation, and the experience of making. 

STATEMENT

My work begins with observation—of nature, movement, and the small shifts that often go unnoticed but then lead  to change and visible transofrmation; I believe that is remanent of my history studies and long term processes.  I am drawn to shapes, textures, colors, and the quiet rhythms found in landscapes, water, plants, and changing light. 

Through painting, I explore the space between abstraction and recognition, allowing forms to emerge, change,  and sometimes disappear again. I am interested in what can be felt before it is fully understood, and in making the unnoticed more evident without forcing it into definition. 

There is joy in this process, alongside moments that feel dry, tense, or uncertain. I try to stay with all of it. Through layered color, organic forms, and intuitive mark-making, my work becomes a way of responding to the world around me and to the emotional landscapes within it.
